Musa Kimo, the new police commissioner in Ebonyi state, has laughed off the rumour being peddled around that he was working for the opposition party in the state, the All Progressive Congress (APC), adding that such claims are laughable.

The Punch reports that Kimo debunked the claims against him in Abakaliki during a session with journalists. He thereby urged the public to dismiss such false accusations.

He said: “When the head is perfect, other parts of the body will be perfect. As the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, is allergic to corruption and anything that is anti-social, so are we.”

Legit.ng gathers that Kimo in his rejoinder also enjoyed members of the public to see police as their friends and people working in accordance with the best international practice.

He added: “Any police officer that chooses to do otherwise is on his or her own as they are expected to be polite, courteous and civil in their approach to all law-abiding citizens.”

“Political actors should play by the rules of the game because the police would not fold its arms and watch people fail to play by the rules. People should obey the law of the land as we would draw centrifugal forces together to ensure that everyone operates within the law.”

Kimo also used the platform to caution the Biafra movement in the state, adding that police will never give room for disturbance of public peace and threats to lives of the state's law-abiding citizens.

“I want to assure law-abiding citizens not to be afraid, to go about their legitimate business as cogent security measures have been put in place to guarantee their safety. Parents should warn their wards not to engage in any outlawed activity because those that do so would meet their waterloo."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Senate committee on police affairs alleged that two former presidents, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, hounded sitting governors using the police.

The Senate accused the duo of using the police as their political tools against those they perceived as opponents while they ruled the country. This followed after an alleged withdrawal of police security operatives guiding Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state.
