- Defection gale has again hit the Oyo state chapter of APC
- Loyalists of former governor of the state, late Lam Adesina have dumped the party and joined ADC
- The defectors cited injustice and lack of internal democracy as the reason they left the party
Loyalists of the late former governor of Oyo state, Alhaji Lam Adesina, under the aegis of the ‘Lamist Movement’, have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state, pledging their support for the party in the 2019 elections.
New Telegraph reports that the movement in a statement signed by its leaders in Ibadan, broke ties with the ruling party as a result of the bickering that attended its last congresses believed to have been hijacked by Governor Abiola Ajimobi and his supporters to the detriment of those of them that held on to the ideals and principles of transparency and probity which the late Lam Adesina of the then Alliance for Democracy (AD) stood for.
Legit.ng gathered that the Lamists had joined another group called the ‘Unity Forum, which also bolted out of the APC after the disputed congresses, thereby swelling the rank of the ADC in the state. They are loyalists of Hon. Dapo Lam Adesina (scion of the deceased former governor) who is in the House of Representatives.
According to the statement, “The Lamist Movement, having studied the political climate of Oyo state and the need to restore the progressive values of party supremacy, good governance, integrity, and commitment to the common good, hereby comes to the following decisions:
“In view of the current political alliances and alignments playing out in the state and the need for all hands to be on deck in reclaiming the lost progressive values in the state as a template for other states in Nigeria, it is agreed that the movement forthwith formally declare to join other compatriots in ADC.
“ADC is a vehicle for the realisation of the greater goal of restoring the progressive values in the policy, politics and the immediate goal of rescuing Oyo State from the insensitive and anti-people government.
“The movement cannot afford to be non-committal in the face of glaring abuse and derogation of the progressive values to which the movement subscribes in the state. That the restoration of the aforementioned values is a pre-requisite for the realisation of the progressive ethos and creed as demonstrated by Alhaji Lam Adesina both in private and public life.
“That we came to these decisions in good faith and in the belief that Oyo State shall rise and shine again,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state called on members of his cabinet aspiring to contest elective positions in the 2019 general elections to resign immediately.
Ajimobi made the call on Saturday, September 8, in Ibadan at a meeting with governorship aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
