President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, September 12, received the digitized All Progressives Congress (APC) membership card from the national chairman of the party Adams Oshiomole at the APC headquarters.

The ruling party currently has 15.6 million registered members so far in its newly created membership data register.

Oshiomhole explained that the party used technology to create the card, hence, it can’t be forged.

He said: “Today to talk about the size of our party, the largest party in the world, largest party in Africa, we need to have evidence that can be verified by a third party or by members. We’ve taken advantage of technology to produce what I believed is the best or the first in Nigeria.

"We now have as of last week when they started printing the membership register about two weeks ago, we had about 15.6 million registered APC members across the country. And the system has been designed in such a way that from the comfort of any members’ sitting room or if I may say Mr President’s living room you can cross check your membership and even membership of anyone that you want to verify without any effort," Oshiomhole said.

The national chairman added that the updated membership register will enable the party conduct direct primary if it so desires.

“We have credible and verifiable reasons to conduct direct primaries on the basis of membership register.

“Before I am misunderstood or misquoted, it goes to saying that in spite of the fact that we have these credible membership register, it does not in any way nullify or change the decisions of NEC with regards to the flexibility that was agreed to, the NWC will strive to give practical expression as transparent as possible so that this party will not only be the largest, but the smartest, the most democratic and most cohesive,” he said.
