Nigerians have been urged by President Muhammadu Buhari, to not allow the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) return to power in 2019.
The president stated this on Wednesday, September 12, while returning his expression of interest and nomination forms to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Punch reports.
Legit.ng gathers that the president, though not mentioning the PDP by name, described the opposition party as “those who brought Nigeria to its knees from 1999-2015.”
Buhari stated that he was at the APC secretariat to seek nomination to contest the 2019 presidential election.
He said: “I am here to put my name forward to seek nomination to contest the presidential election in 2019. I am taking this step as a sense of responsibility and the unquestionable desire to serve and protect the interest of all Nigerians.
“I am grateful to individuals and organisations that have contributed funds for me to buy the form. I assure them and the rest of Nigerians that if nominated and if elected, I shall continue to serve you to the best of my ability.
“Let me appeal to party members not to be complacent, but to mobilise and strategise to win the 2019 elections. We must not allow those who brought the country to its knees from 1999 to 2015 to come and take us back."
Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari submitted his nomination and expression of interest forms at the APC national secretariat.
The president submitted the forms to his party shortly after presiding over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
The form was bought for the president by a political group working for his re-election under the umbrella of Nigeria Consolidation Ambassador Network (NCAN).
