Marco Asensio shines as Spain thrash Croatia 6-0 in UEFA Nations League

- Spain dominated Croatia in Tuesday night's showdown in Elche

- The 6-0 hammering was Croatia's worst defeat in their international history

- Spain lead Group A log of the Nations League with six points from two matches

Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio was the main man on Tuesday night, September 11, as Spain’s La Roja hammered Croatia’s Blazers to claim their second consecutive victory from two matches in the UEFA Nations League.

The Los Blancos ace netted a fantastic goal, and was in the thick of the action that led to four other goals, that saw the Luis Enrique's tutored-side continue their winning run after dispatching England at Wembley on Sunday.

The encounter which started slowly at the Estadio Martinez Valero in Elche saw Saul Niguez hand Spain the lead with an amazing team crafted goal before the Galaticos forward took charge of the proceedings.

Asensio assisted the trio of Rodrigo, Sergio Ramos and Isco in the second stanza as La Roja's astonishing home record of not suffering defeat in a competitive fixture since June 2003 remains intact, even as they handed the World Cup finalists their biggest defeat in their history.

Interestingly, Croatia kicked-off the encounter the better side as Barcelona midfielder Rakitic celebrated his 100th international cap, and in the 5th minute he almost punished club pal Sergio Busquets for an unpardonable error but his strike at goal missed target by whiskers.

The East European nation also missed another golden moment after Ivan Santini lost his marker but failed to connect the ball inside David De Gea's goal at the near post.

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal also helped clear the line during another attack from the World Cup finalists.

However, after Saul got his second goal for Spain in the Nations League goal against the run of play, the goals never seized.

Asensio fired a curling left-footed shot that banged off the crossbar, and hit the head of Croatia goalie, Nikola Kalinic before resting in the net to see Spain go up 3-0.

In the second stanza, Asensio took over the duties of playmaker as Spain opened up Croatia defence line, with the Real Madrid man assisting Rodrigo Spain’s goal.

Indeed, Croatia’s Blazers were far different from the squad that played at the summer World Cup final in Russia, and were nowhere to be found as an unmarked Ramos nodded home Spain’s fifth goal off an Asensio's corner kick.

Interestingly, the gaps in the Croatian end as the match progressed were increasing by the minute and Isco was excited to seize the momentum after receiving a pass from Asensio, he took a touch and hammered in a right-footed shot to make it 6-0.

In all honestly, La Roja had other numerous chances to make it seven or even eight but a combination mind-blowing saves from Kalinic as well as bad luck kept the scoreline at 6-0 at the blast of the final whistle.

Meanwhile, previously had reported that Luis Enrique won his first match in charge as Spain's coach with a 2-1 victory over England at the Wembley Stadium in the Uefa Nations League.
