Some of them could be truthful while other misleading. So, before you start avoiding this useful fruit for the next nine months, here are some facts.

The biggest fear is concerned with the question is pineapple good for early pregnancy. There exist a myth that pineapple may cause early miscarriage though. These are just rumors and old wives’ tales. There’s no scientific evidence to support that pineapple is dangerous during pregnancy. Here is what science said about pineapple.

Pineapple contains bromelain. If you take bromelain pills in large amounts, they may break down proteins and cause abnormal bleeding. Such pills are not recommended to take during pregnancy.

Though if you consume bromelain in the pineapple in a single serving, it is not likely to interrupt your pregnancy as one pineapple contains small amounts of this ingredient. In reality, the dangerous portion of this fruit starts at seven to ten fresh pineapples in one serving. It is doubtful that anybody would like to eat so many pineapples at once!

  • Manganese. This mineral is essential for strong and healthy bones. It helps to prevent osteoporosis.
  • Vitamin B1. This vitamin is used to boost the muscles and nervous system.
  • Vitamin B6. It is useful for the immune system as it prepares antibodies and produces energy. Lack of the vitamin B6 may cause anemia.
  • Copper. This quite a rare mineral contained in pineapples helps to produce red blood cells.
  • Fiber. It is known to ease constipation. That is a common issue in the early stages of pregnancy.
  • Iron and folic acid. Similarly to copper, iron is helpful in red blood cells production. Folic acid helps to prevent undesirable birth defects.
  • Bromelain. As it was mentioned about, bromelain can break down some proteins but, at the same time, it helps to fight bacteria in the intestines improving digestion.
  • Diuretic properties. Pineapple is helpful in removing excess liquids from the body which is a common problem during pregnancy that causes swelling.
  • Mood Enhancement. PIneapple is very effective at improving mood and restoring emotional health.
  • Lowering blood pressure. Pregnant women often have a high blood pressure. Pineapple helps to prevent blood clots and thin the blood.

Eating pineapple should not cause any troubles or make giving the birth more uncomfortable than it already is. Though pregnant women need to be careful if they have a sensitive stomach. The acids are easy to give a heartburn or reflux. It is better to eat pineapples in moderate amounts to avoid the side effects.

You might also have an allergy to this delicious fruit. Pay attention to the allergic symptoms that might appear:

  • itching or swelling around the mouth
  • skin reaction
  • asthma
  • congestion
  • runny nose.

If you didn’t notice these symptoms right after eating pineapple or within one hour, probably, you are not allergic to pineapples.

  • Heartburn or reflux. Pineapple might be not recommended for those who have a sensitive stomach. The thing is pineapple is rich in acids that can cause heartburn or reflux.
  • Miscarriage. It is the truth that excessive amounts of pineapple in the diet of a pregnant woman can increase the level of bromelain which leads to bleeding and, in the result, miscarriage.
  • Overweight. Because of the high level of calories, pineapples can contribute to overweight.
  • Diarrhea. Bromelain mentioned above can also cause diarrhea when eaten too much.

The listed reactions can be observed if you are allergic to latex or pollen. If they don’t occur within a few minutes to the maximum of one hour, you don’t need to worry about being allergic to pineapples, and probably consumption of this fruit will not lead to any side effects for you.
