- Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state has promised to pay workers' salary and clear their arrears
- The state chairman of NLC, Comrade Jacob Adekomi, made the disclosure after his meeting with government officials
- NLC had threatened to embark on strike if the salaries and arrears were not paid
The Osun state government led by Governor Rauf Aregbesola has agreed to pay the state civil servants their full salaries for the month of August as well as to offset accumulated four months’ salary arrears of 2015.
Legit.ng gathered that the state chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Jacob Adekomi, disclosed this after a marathon meeting with officials of state government on Tuesday, September 11.
Adekomi said the workers' 2016 leave bonus would also be paid with immediate effect, while the rest arrears would be settled as soon as the much expected N16 billion Paris Club refund is received.
It was gathered that the leadership of the NLC had given the state government a seven day ultimatum effective Monday, September 10, to pay all outstanding salaries, allowances and other entitlements of the state workers with immediate effect or face a strike action.
Legit.ng gathered that the national leader of APC, Asiwaju Tinubu, had earlier said while speaking at the palace of Owa Obokun of Ijesa land that arrangements were being made to ensure that the workers entitlements were paid.
He described the APC's governorship candidate, Isiaka Oyetola, as the most humble and intelligent candidate that he can vouch for, adding that he is highly trustworthy.
He narrated how Oyetola managed all the properties that he entrusted in his hand while he was in exile for five years during the NADECO's struggle.
He said all his properties including that of his mother (Iyaloja ) were properly kept without Oyetola converting not a single plot of land from the properties he put in his care.
He, therefore, urged all Osun indigenes to support his aspiration to take the state to the lofty height.
