- The body of the late UN boss Kofi Annan is to arrive in Ghana, his country of origin, pending the funeral and final burial arrangements in the course of time
- Annan died on Saturday, August 18, at the age of 80
- He served as the seventh secretary-general of the United Nations, from January 1997 to December 2006
Earlier reported arrangements showed that the body of the late secretary-general of the United Nations (UN) would arrive the country on Monday, September 10.
The late globally respected diplomat is expected to be buried in his native country, Ghana, having died at the age of 80. The late Kofi Annan's body is expected to arrive at the Kotoka International Airport later on Monday.
Legit.ng posted exclusive photographs regarding his arrival and the presence of a welcoming party. Members of the diplomatic corps, the security services, traditional leaders and politicians are among those at the airport.
It is, however, not clear which politicians are currently on the grounds, although a high-powered government delegation is expected.
Traditional leaders are an important part of Ghanaian culture. And as such, those presumably from Annan's hometown are at the airport.
As with any important occasion, it would seem the security at the Kotoka International Airport is on high alert.
