- INEC says the delay in the election budget passage is affecting the procurement of some electoral materials
- There are strong indications that the National Assembly may have concluded arrangements to cut short its long recess over INEC budget
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said except for the delay in the passage of the election budget by the National Assembly, it is ready to conduct the 2019 general elections.
Channels TV reports that the national commissioner of publicity, INEC, Solomon Soyebi, made the statement on Sunday, September 9, during an appearance on the station.
“On our part, we are ready (for the conduct of the 2019 elections). Don’t forget that we gave the notice last year,” the INEC officer stated.
He however stated that the delay in the budget passage is affecting the procurement of some electoral materials.
"The major bottleneck that we will come across in terms of finances, we have tried to abridge them. About 90 per cent of the problems we have with finances will come from this procurement,”Soyebi said.
Meanwhile, a report by the Nation indicates that the National Assembly may have concluded arrangements to cut short its long recess to consider the controversial INEC budget for the 2019 elections.
According to the report, the question of reconvening on Tuesday, September 25, as scheduled has been taken over by events.
The report quoted a source as saying the likelihood of the postponement of the September 25 date of resumption is being considered due to prevailing political circumstances.
