- The midfielder has been tipped to succeed at the Camp Nou once he completes his move to the club

Spanish League champions Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Brazil youngster Lucas Paqueta during the next transfer window.

The 21-year-old midfielder was included in coach Tite's team that defeated the United States team 2-0 last weekend, but didn't make the match day squad.

He was closed to joining French League giants Paris Saint Germain during last summer transfer window, according to the Sun.

His current contract with Flamengo expires in December 2020 and the club have slammed around £45 million release clause on their star player.

The natural left footer has been tipped as the ideal young star to come into the Nou Camp side's midfield.

Paqueta is also good with the other leg with the ability of dictating the pace from the middle of the park.

However, the box-to-box midfielder was said to have spent sometime negotiating an improved deal which would boost his salary and raise his release clause to around £63m.

Flamengo vice-president Ricardo Lomba said: "Now he's gone with the national team, it's clear he's climbed up a step.

"We want him to stay and will do everything we can to keep him at the club where he's developed as a player."

Barca hope history repeats itself and they can tie Paqueta down to a deal like they did with his fellow countryman Arthur earlier this summer. previously reported that Chelsea turned down a £50 million mega deal from Spanish champions Barcelona for the signing of Brazil international Willian.

The 29-year-old midfielder was superb last season for the Blues helping them to win the FA Cup title as they defeated Manchester United in the final.

He was also in good form against Barcelona in the Champions League although his side were beaten by the Spanish club but his performances caught the eyes of the Catalan chiefs.
