A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom state, Francis Udoikpong, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Daily Trust reports that Udoikpong, a PDP state caucus member and former state commissioner for health defected with about 5,000 others to APC on Saturday, September 8.
Legit.ng gathered that the defection of the Ika local government area came barely a month after former deputy inspector general of police, Udom Ekpoudom and Obong Akpan, his counterparts in Etim Ekpo and Ini local government areas, respectively, joined the APC together with Senator Godswill Akpabio, the former Senate minority leader.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the former minority leader of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It was reported that Akpabio officially defected to the ruling party on Wednesday, August 8, at the Ikot-Ekpene township stadium in Akwa Ibom.
In related development, the defection of Akpabio to All Progressives Congress (APC) was described “as the beginning of the end of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).’’
A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, made the prediction in a statement in Port Harcourt.
Eze, in the statement commended Akpabio “for acting wisely and jumping out of the crashing PDP train before it finally crashes."
Eze is a former member of PDP and one of those who dumped the party in 2014 to become a foundation member of APC.
He had said that: “Knowing Akpabio very well, he is a one-man Tsunami and with him in the progressives train, PDP’s end is only a matter of time.
"What is more, with Akpabio now in APC, Dr. Bukola Saraki, who recently made the mistake of defecting to PDP, can be sure that his Presidency of the Senate is only a matter of weeks.’’
Eze urged all those still remaining in PDP out of the belief that it would be revived to act very fast.
