- A hundred thousand PDP members in Kwara state have left the party for APC
- The party members were led to APC by an oil mogul
- Abdulrazaq Abdulrahaman said the politicians in PDP were agents of destruction
An oil magnate in Kwara state, Abdulrazaq Abdulrahaman, on Thursday, September 6, led thousands of his supporters to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Abdulrahaman who contested with Senate president Bukola Saraki in the last senatorial election in Kwara Central under the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) said all his supporters joined him to the APC.
The oil magnate while speaking with journalists after his registration with the ruling party at his Idi-igba ancestral home in Ilorin said the APC has assured it would accomodate all the defectors.
Abdulrahaman said: "All my supporters have moved from the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC), we are talking in the region of over 100,000 electorates. Already, the national leadership of APC had sent 250,000 cards to kwara state in order to accommodate all of us.
"Let me give you a clearer example, in Kaima local government, 90% of the party members did not move to PDP, they remained where they were. Now 80% of Kwara north as a whole also stayed behind, even in kwara central where I come from most people did not move with them, so there is a change in the horizon."
He added that when CPC merged with ACN the members decided to bring in the new PDP but realised that the people coming from the new PDP were the people they could not work with. He said those politicians were agents of destruction.
“And we warned them, but they didn’t agree with us, now you have seen the havoc they have done to our party. Now we are back home, where we belong.
"For us,its about change, we have had maladministration for over twenty years, its just that change that we want, it’s not even about who become the governor or which geopolitical zone take the mantle. We just want to get rid of these people who have mismanaged the economy of kwara for years.
"Coming from the last local government election late last year, anybody that lived in the state knew that the opposition won the election, so the people are ready for change. Right now, the leaders of the party are meeting and building consensus to consolidate on that achievement to win the state in the next election," Abdulrahaman added.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the ruling party has described the PDP's claim that six APC governors and some senators have concluded plans to join its fold, as hallucination.
The national publicity secretary of the party, Yekini Nabena, stated this in a statement on Thursday, September 6, in Abuja.
It was gathered that Nabena said that by the PDP’s claim, “it is now clear that the party has assumed the role of comic relief ahead of the 2019 general elections.
