- Senator Iyiola Omisore, Osun state governorship candidate on the platform of SDP, has spoken on forthcoming election
- Omisore said the INEC should prevent voters from going into the polling booths with phone and cameras
- He, however, vowed that any form of attempt to rig the governorship election will be resisted
Senator Iyiola Omisore, Osun state governorship candidate on the platform of Social Democratic Party, has called on the INEC to go ahead with its plan to stop voters from going to polling booths with their phones and cameras.
The Punch reports that Omisore on Thursday, September 6, said the preventing cameras at the polling units would make the forthcoming governorship election in the state free and fair.
Legit.ng gathered the senator made this known in Osogbo at the mega rally ahead of the election.
According to him, “Stopping voters from using cameras inside the cubicles is okay. It will prevent vote-buying and I am sure everybody knows that vote-buying is illegal. Stopping this illegality will be good for the credibility of our elections.
“I am not in the PDP because some are saying that I am in the PDP, it is a deceit. I am in the SDP and we are going to win this election. We will not allow anybody to steal our votes this time.
“They are planning to use OYESS cadets as polling officers and that is why I am asking you all to demand the identity cards of INEC ad hoc staff on the election day. They should be members of the National Youth Service Corps or students and not OYESS cadets.
“We shall resist any form of rigging; we will protect our votes. I say it again; we shall resist any attempt to rig this election.”
Omisore said he held a meeting with the workers in the state and they told him that the wage bill for the entire workforce was N1.9bn.
He claimed that the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, which could not pay full salaries for 34 months, spent N5bn on posters and billboards to campaign for the governorship candidate of the APC, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the INEC in Osun released the timetable for the conduct of the state governorship election.
The newly appointed Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, Olusegun Agbaje, said election activities would commence on June 23 with the release of “Notice of Election’’ by INEC.
Agbaje said political parties would commence a public campaign on June 24 while candidates for elections and their parties would have the opportunities to obtain forms at INEC headquarters from June 25.
