Following series of rainfalls in Ezioko village of Oko, Orumba North in Anambra state, the country home of late former vice president Alex Ekwueme is said to be under erosion threat.

Recall that the late vice president was buried in Ezioko village on February 2, 2018, following his death in November 19, 2017.

According to members of the community, houses belonging to five families in Ezioko village have been lost to the rampaging erosion, The Sun reports.

There was demonstration by members of the community on Wednesday, September 5, to attract attention and assistance of the international community, federal and state government, to their plight.

The increasing erosion crises in the community were blamed on daily excavation of sand from Ihengwu village within the community.

The president general of Oko People's Union (OPU), Cyprian Nwanmuo, said sand excavation had been outlawed by the state government.

He said: “We have had several joint meetings, including some with state government officials from the governor’s office, ministry of lands, environment and they had been flouted by those excavators almost immediately. As we are here today, protesting and agitating, they are there collecting and selling the sand."
