Trump’s alleged statement against President Buhari should be disregarded - Kalu

- Orji Uzor Kalu said President Buhari has the respect of the international community

- The APC chieftain said this was evident with the number of world leaders coming to Nigeria

- He urged Nigerians to continue to support President Buhari

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Orji Uzor Kalu, has asked that the statement credited to President Donald Trump of the US against President Muhammadu Buhari should be disregarded.

There were reports that Trump referred to Buhari as a lifeless president and Kalu has applauded President Buhari for not responding to it.

The Sun reports that Kalu also called on Nigerians at home and in diaspora to continue to support the president.

He said: “The recent statement credited to President Donald Trump of the United States of America, describing Nigeria’s president Muhammadu Buhari as a lifeless president, should be disregarded.

“The false claim, as reported in Financial Times, cannot be validated otherwise, president Trump would have come out formally and openly to make such an acerbic statement.

“The same US president had, in recent times, applauded President Muhammadu Buhari. It is no longer news that many world leaders have been visiting president Buhari in Nigeria. It is testament to the acceptability of President Buhari’s laudable programmes and policies.

“President Buhari has also been reciprocating the diplomatic gestures by visiting leaders across the globe. We should not make issues out of a statement that is not official. Nigeria and the US have come a long way in bilateral co-operation. Both countries have been supportive of each other.

“Africans have intellectual skills in various fields of endeavours, which, if well harnessed, will impact lives positively on the African continent and beyond. The world is a global village and, as such, we must respect people of other continents and build a synergy that will translate into global development.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Orji Uzor Kalu reacted to the report that he was plotting to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the report as false.

In a statement released on Tuesday, July 31, Kalu said the report was being spread by malicious people bent on causing confusion on the APC. He insisted that he would rather quit politics than join the PDP.

Legit.ng also reported that Orji Uzor-Kalu took a swipe at former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, stating that he only has his personal interest at heart and not the interest of Nigerians.
