Strange social media accounts use Yusuf Buhari's name to voice personal opinions - Presidency cries out

- The presidency has frowned at acts of impersonation against the son of the president, Yusuf Muhammadu Buhari

- Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, in a statement said that some persons fraudulently use social media accounts in Yusuf's name

- Adesina said that the most recent is an Instagram account @ymbuhari, which has been used to express opinions in Yusuf's name without his knowledge

The presidency on Wednesday, September 5, dismissed social media accounts being used in the name of President Muhammadu Buhari’s son, Yusuf.

Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, in a statement made available to Legit.ng said that Yusuf is not on any social media platform.

Adesina said the social media handles and pages, including a recent Instagram account which had attracted thousands of followers, were being used to express opinions in Yusuf’s name without his consent and knowledge.

Consequently, Adesina advised the public to disregard such handles and pages and warned those operating the various accounts in the name of the president's son and other members of the family to stop the act.

The statement read: “It has been observed that social media accounts are being run in the name of the son of the President, Yusuf Buhari.

“The most recent is an Instagram account @ymbuhari, which has attracted thousands of followers, and which has been used to express opinions in Yusuf’s name without his knowledge. This is to inform the general public that Yusuf Muhammadu Buhari is not on any social media platform.

“The public is therefore, advised to disregard such handles and pages, while those perpetrating the illegality are advised to stop forthwith, as it amounts to impersonation.

"The same advice goes to those running other pages and handles impersonating other members of the family of the President.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Yusuf, the son of President Muhammadu Buhari had returned to Nigeria following treatment abroad after a motorcycle accident.

In a picture shared on Facebook, Yusuf was seen thanking his father following his successful surgery.
