According to Express (UK), it was not the physical injury that dented the left-backs performance but rather the mental scars that had weighed down on the former Southampton player.

"I have seen a psychologist, for the last four years in fact, but especially after the leg break: that was a very tough time," He said.

Shaw was informed by his doctor six months down the line that he had almost lost his leg.

"I nearly lost my leg, I was actually really close to losing my leg and I never knew that until six months after when the doctor told me," he revealed.
"At the time they were thinking about flying me back (from Eindhoven) and if I would have flown back, I would probably have lost my leg because of the blood clots and stuff in the leg," Shaw told Skysports.

Shaw's recent return to form has earned him a recall to Gareth Southgate's Three Lions squad replacing fellow Red Devil Ashley Young.

Southgate believes that Shaw has come of age after finally realising the level of commitment that topflight professional football requires.

And when asked about Southgate's comments he admitted it was true and the resulting effect had witnessed him gain limited playing time from United boss Jose Mourinho.

"Maybe at times I was not carrying on to the next level and that's where I have changed from a kid to a man and I have realised that. Now I'm back to England squad, I have to keep going and take the criticism on board," he said.

Mourinho and Shaw seem to have rekindled their relationship that was once said to have broken, with the Portuguese having chosen Shaw as his preferred left-back in United's starting 11.

Shaw has already scored one goal for United in the 2018/19 English Premier League season and seems to be ready to prove to the world just what he is capable of.
