Defection: Akpabio didn’t import impunity into APC - Party chieftain

- The defection of Senator Godswill Akpabio to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is still a trending topic in Akwa Ibom state

- Some stakeholders in the party had accused the former governor of importing impunity into the party after his defection

- Dismissing the insinuation, a chieftain of the party in the state, Edet Ikotidem, said Akpabio came to the APC because he needed a platform that can enhance the change he desires

A chieftain of the APC in Akwa Ibom state, Edet Ikotidem, has dismissed insinuations of erstwhile Governor Godswill Akpabio importing impunity into the party.

Ikotidem, a House of Representatives aspirant for the Itu/Ibiono Ibom federal constituency, disclosed this when he briefed journalists in the state.

According to him, Akpabio’s conversion was like that of Paul in the bible who on conversion changed in his perceptions and proclivities.

His words: “Somebody could have been something else and decided to make a change. It is like the Christian faith. You had a man like Paul who was against Christ, but along the line God arrested him, and he became a changed person.

“That is why he needed a platform that can enhance the change that he desires for. So you cannot say that impunity came with that person. What matters is the policies and programmes of that particular political party.

“What drove us from PDP was impunity and we looked for a platform and found it in APC because there is no impunity in APC. And it is not only Akpabio, but many repentant persons in that former platform are also coming into APC."

Meanwhile, five time governorship candidate in Delta state and APC chieftain, Chief Great Ovadje Ogboru, has described himself as one of those who would be liberating Delta state from the PDP in the 2019 general elections.

Ogboru stated this while addressing hundreds of APC supporters on Sunday, September 2, at Orerokpe, Delta state.

“The time for liberation has come and the chief of that liberation is no other person than our president, President Muhammadu Buhari who is our chief liberator because he is coming here leading a pack of liberators amongst whom are our comrade chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole himself, our super senator himself Ovie Omo-Agege and my very good self, Chief Ovadje Ogboru who is one of the liberators now.

“With all of us joining hands with you, the liberation for Delta state indeed has started,” Ogboru declared.
