Uncertainty in Kano as former governor Shekarau reportedly halts defection to APC

- The alleged botched plan by Shekarau to decamp to APC has caused confusion in Kano state

- There are speculations that Shekarau's alleged defection will furthermore strengthen President Buhari's chances in 2019

There are speculations that the alleged plot by Ibrahim Shekarau to decamp from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is bound to create uncertainties for enthusiasts who had expected the combination of Shekarau and Rabiu Kwankwanso to neutralise President Muhammadu Buhari’s ascendancy in the state.

Vanguard reports that Shekarau’s exit to the All Progressives Congress (APC) could also prove beneficial for the second term aspiration of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje who Kwankwanso has vowed to stop from being re-elected.

An aide to the former governor had earlier announced the defection from PDP to APC but in a dramatic turn, Shekarau allegedly denied that there is no such plan to defect.

Shekarau on Tuesday, September 4, pulled back from confirming speculations of his defection from the opposition PDP.

Legit.ng earlier reported that following media reports that the former minister of education, Shekarau, was considering leaving the PDP, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party announced steps to ensure he stayed back.

In a statement sent to journalists on Tuesday, September 4, the party announced it had resolved to expand the Kano state caretaker committee to accommodate all interests in line with its adherence to the principles of all-inclusiveness.

The party leadership also said it was prepared to engage with all stakeholders in Kano provided all matters in court against the party are withdrawn and all members work together to build a united PDP that would confront and send incompetent and insensitive people out of governance in the state and Nigeria at large.
