BREAKING: Buhari's in-law reportedly joins Adamawa governorship race in APC

Mahmoud Halilu Ahmed, younger brother of Nigeria's first lady Aisha Buhari, who is best known as Modi, has reportedly joined the governorship race in Adamawa state.

According to Sahara Reporters, President Muhamadu Buhari's brother-in-law, Modi, disclosed his gubernatorial ambition in a letter addressed to the state chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The letter reads in part: "I am proposing to have a formal declaration of my candidacy as a gubernatorial aspirant of the APC on the 10th of September, 2018 at 12 noon in Yola.

“Following the desire of our great party to open the political space for mass participation and our great party's effort to offer a level playing field for free, fair and credible elections, I wish to formally inform you of my intention to contest for the office of the executive governor of Adamawa state in the 2019 General Elections under APC.” gathered that Modi explained that he was joining the governorship race because he was driven by "patriotism to tackle the challenges facing the state, including the general wellbeing of our people”.

Meanwhile, had previously reported that Senator Ayo Fasanmi who is the leader of a pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, said that President Muhammadu Buhari is not too old to recontest in the 2019 elections.

Fasanmi in a statement on Tuesday, September 4 also called on some Yoruba leaders to desist from the habit of condemning all the president’s policies.

The Yoruba leader insisted that the talk that the president was too old to contest was based on emotion noting that some young persons who have had the opportunities to perform in some positions have done badly.
