- The Gunners have been struggling at left-back since the season started

Premier League side Arsenal have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis in the January transfer window.

The Brazilian left-back's current deal at the Wanda Metropolitano will run out this summer and it is uncertain whether he will sign a new contract.

And according to the Mirror, Arsenal manager Unai Emery could make a move for the 33-year-old when the transfer window opens in January.

The former Chelsea star was a target by Paris Saint-Germain in the summer but the deal collapsed when Atletic demanded a fee in the region of £27million.

The Ligue 1 champions were only willing to offer £4.5m to get a deal done, believing it was a fair price for a defender of his age and approaching the final year of his contract.

Luis spoke to Europa League champions about the situation, but Atleti made it clear they did not want him to leave in the summer and he obliged.

But by the time the window opens in January he will be entering the last six months of his stay in the Spanish capital as yet there is nothing in place to extend his career.

Emery has reportedly been a long-term admirer of the hard-tackling defender, who struggled to make an impression in the Premier League when he spent a year at Stamford Bridge in 2014-15.

Luis was second choice to Spanish star Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back and was sold back to Atletico a year later.

But Emery knows his game well and the suggestion is he believes the Brazilian is the best option for the crisis in the Gunner's left-back position.

First choice Nancho Monreal's contract with the club runs out at the end of the season with no offer made to the Spaniard yet.

Sead Kolasinac who plays second fiddle to Monreal has still not convinced he has what it takes to become a success in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, had earlier reported that Brazil left back Felipe Luis is reportedly planning to dump his Spanish League side Atletico Madrid before the close of the summer transfer window.

The former Chelsea star has just one more year on his current deal with the Europa League champions and does not have an intention of signing a new contract extension.
