Godswin Akpabio, a former Senate minority leader who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed optimism in the way Buhari-led administration is responding to the security issue in Nigeria, adding that the country was vulnerable to terrorism during the reign the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Cable reported that Akpabio who threw the jibes at PDP while responding to questions during a Channels TV programme on Monday, 3 September, said insurgency was the order of the day during the reign of the former ruling party, PDP. He further commented that Buhari government has been able to put the insurgence under control.
He said: "President Muhammadu Buhari’s government has come; it has shown a lot of commitment towards fighting insurgents. At that time when we were in charge, the PDP, I can tell you that so many communities and local governments across the north-east were under the control of Boko Haram. Their flags were flying everywhere, and they were moving around freely.”
Commenting on the how the polity of the country should be run during the time of emergency, Akpabio remarked that "when a country is in crisis; when there is an emergency, all hands must be on deck … As nationalists, we want Nigeria to survive – it doesn’t matter the political party."
