Real campaign for Bale's acrobatic effort against Liverpool for Puskas award

- Bale's overhead-kick against Liverpool gets nominated for Puskas award

- Real Madrid have congratulated the Welshman ignoring Cristiano Ronaldo

- Lionel Messi's goal against Nigeria at the World Cup was also shortlisted

European champions Real Madrid have rushed to congratulate Gareth Bale after his stunning overhead-kick against Liverpool in last season's Champions League final got nominated for this year's Puskas award.

However, the Bernabeu outfit snubbed Cristiano Ronaldo after his own acrobatic kick against Juventus was also recognised by FIFA.

The Portuguese superstar completed a shock summer switch to join the Serie A champions after the World Cup.

And it appears the Spanish club are keen to cut ties completely, despite his effort helping them secure a third successive Champions League title.

Bale broke Liverpool hearts in Kiev as his two goals secured Madrid's third consecutive triumph in the elite tournament.

But the Wales international's man-of-the-match display was crowned by a mind-blowing scissors kick which put Los Blancos in the driving seat deep into the second half.

The ex-Tottenham star will now be hoping to be recognised for the effort after he incredibly missed out on UEFA's goal of the tournament earlier this year.

That award went to his former teammate Ronaldo for his similar strike against Juventus, and it could be neck-and-neck again ahead of the results at the end of 2018.

Other goal nominated for the award include Mohamed Salah's strike for Liverpool in his derby debut against Everton and Lionel Messi's amazing effort for Argentina during the World Cup against Nigeria.

Meanwhile, had earlier reported that Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been excluded from the podium for FIFA's Best award after the final shortlists were leaked.

The Best Men's Player will not be won by the Argentine star this year, despite a magnificent season for the Catalan giants.
