- Gunshots and explosion were reported from Maiduguri, Borno state
- The explosion was reporetdly close to Alau Dam, few minutes outside the metropolis
- Alau Dam serves 70% of the residents of Maiduguri town
Gunshots and explosions believed to be from Boko Haram insurgents reportedly took place near Alau Dam along Maiduguri-Konduga road, according to a report by a civilian Joint Task Force volunteer and a high ranking government official.
Vanguard reports that some group of insurgents on motorcycles were sighted by troops deployed around Alau Dam general area where they opened fire on the insurgents using Propelled Launchers and machine guns.
Alau Dam which is the source of drinking water to over 70% residents of the metropolis reportedly came under attack last month, but Borno state government denied the report.
It is not yet known if there were any casualties involved in this fresh attack by the insurgents.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Boko Haram insurgents are no longer in control of any part of the country.

The president said this on Sunday, September 2, in Beijing, China, while stating some of the successes of his administration, as he addressed some Nigerians residing in the country.
He reportedly attributed the successes to operations of security agencies deployed to counterinsurgency in the northeastern part of the country.
