Liverpool duo of Sadio Mane and Virgil Van Dijk have been listed among the players contending for the August Premier League player of the month award.

Other stars included shortlisted for the prestigious award include Chelsea wing back Marcos Alonso and Machester City star Benjamin Mendy.

Tottenham Hotspur attacker Lucas Moura, Watford's Roberto Pereyra and Cardiff City's Neil Etheridge complete the seven man lift for the contention of the wawrd.

Senegal international Mane has been impressive for the Reds so far this season scoring three times in their first three matches in the 2018-19 campaign.

He continued his goal scoring form from where he stopped last term - although, failed to win silverware with the Anfield side despite reaching the Champions League final in May.

Virgil van Dijk is also a major contender for the award having shown he is in control of his defence since the league started few weeks back.

The Dutchman has been influential at the heart of his side's defence and has helped keep the Reds from conceding in their first three games of the season.

Tottenham's Lucas Moura was terrific for his side in their last away game at Old Trafford following the impressive performance that got him brace against Manchester United on Monday night.

He has also scored a total of three goals in three matches for Spurs and will be considered a strong contender for the prize.

Roberto Pereyra has also been superb for Watford since the start of this Premier League season - scoring three goals in three matches for the club.

The 27-year-old Argentine forward joined the Hornets in 2016 and has scored a total of 10 goals since he arrived at the club.

His goals have contributed to his side's great start of the season as they are ranked among the top four teams in the outgoing month.

Benjamin Mendy is the only Manchester City star shortlisted for this month's edition of the award.

The 2018 World Cup winning defender has brought a new dimension to the champions’ game with his runs down the left. He has provided three assists this season.

Cardiff goalkeeper Neil Etheridge made the seven man list for the award after saving two penalties in his side's three games.

He is the first Filipino to play in the Premier League as he has made nine fantastic saves to the start of the season.

Though his side are yet to win a game, he has been impressive for the newly promoted since their promotion to the English topflight.

Chelsea star Marcos Alonso has one goal to his credit in three appearances for the Stamford Bridge outfit.
