Ronaldo beats Messi, Salah to win UEFA Champions League best forward

- Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed the best forward prize for the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League

- The Portuguese star also holds the same award for the 2016/17 season

- Ronaldo received his award during the 2018/19 Champions League group stage draw in Monaco

Portugal and Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed the best forward prize for the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League campaign, after seeing off the pair of Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Mohamed Salah of Liverpool.

According to Europe’s football governing body UEFA, the Portuguese superstar Ronaldo holds the same player award for the 2016/17 season, after being named the competition’s best scorer with 15 goals while helping the Los Blancos to their third consecutive victories.

At the last count Ronaldo saw off the following forwards that include Messi, Salah, Mbappé and Dzeko.

Others are Harry Kane, Roberto Firmino, Gareth Bale, Antoine Griezmann and Sadio Mané.

Interestingly, Ronaldo’s former club Real Madrid accounted for more than half of the 12 nominees for the season's UEFA Champions League positional awards, with the likes of Marcelo, Sergio Ramos and Raphaël Varane all considered for best defender.

In addition, Keylor Navas made the cut for best goalkeeper and while the duo of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric for best midfielder.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously had reported that Juventus and Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo has made the final three man shortlist of players that will fight for the 2017/18 UEFA player of the year award.

The former Real Madrid star will face serious competition for the award from Croatia international Luka Modric and Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.

Mohamed Salah won the golden boot award last season after scoring 32 Premier League goals for Liverpool and also steered the Reds to the Champions League final in Kiev losing to Real Madrid.
