Speaker Dogara absent as APC NEC commences

The speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara is reportedly conspicuously missing from the ongoing National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). notes that with the defection of Senate president Bukola Saraki to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dogara is the highest-ranking member of the ruling party in the legislature.

The national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, however, read an apology from him and that of his deputy, Yusuf Lasun at the commencement, Leadership reports.

This is as the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu made a surprise appearance even though he is constitutionally not a statutory member of this decision-making organ of the party.

He, however, did not attend the meeting but was at the secretariat.

The meeting commenced at 11.20am after the arrival of President Muhammdu Buhari. The NEC meeting, as at the time of this report, is currently in its closed-door session.

Meanwhile, had previously reported that the’s National Executive Committee will take a final decision on whether to choose its candidates using the direct or indirect mode of primaries, on Thursday, August 30.

The ruling party will also deliberate and agree on the modalities for the nationwide membership registration/revalidation of members. There are divided opinions over which method would best serve the party’s interest.
