Isaac Success ends 22-month goal drought in Watford’s Carabao Cup victory

Nigerian forward Isaac Success was in scoring form for Premier League side Watford in their 2-0 victory over Reading in Wednesday's League Cup second round clash, thus, bringing to an end his 22-month no goal reign.

The former Flying Eagles and Golden Eaglets ace has suffered both fitness and disciplinary issues at Watford that saw the club’s record signing play the second half of the 2017-18 campaign on loan at Spanish side Malaga.

Interestingly, since the Benin-City born Success netted his first goal for Watford against Bournemouth in an English topflight game on October 1, 2016, the Nigeria international has not celebrated a goal in a competitive game.

However, Success got the opener in the 37th minute to set Watford on their path to victory over Reading after tucking in from close range.

Success could have netted a hat trick early in the second stanza. First, he headed narrowly over from a centre from Kiko Femenia, before nodding wide after Masina sent in a cross from the left.

On the other hand Reading were poor in their bid to fight back and ultimately fell 2-0 behind in the 62nd minute after they could not clear corner properly thus allowing Quina release a superb 30-yard drive that goalkeeper Walker.

Navarro equally came close to widening Watford’s winning margin but Walker kept out the danger again with a fine save to but the Hornets still progressed into the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Meanwhile, previously had reported that Championship side Aston Villa are close to sealing a loan deal for Super Eagles and Watford forward Isaac Success.

According to Bleacher Report, the 22-year-old Success is expected to leave Vicarage Road, to join the claret and blues before today’s summer transfer window deadline.

The one-capped Nigeria international, was loaned to Spanish side Malaga in the second half of last campaign but could not save the side from finishing at the last spot of Spain's topflight, with 20 points from 38 games.
