- Manchester United set to offer Anthony Martial a new 5-year deal
- The Frenchman has been rumoured with a move away from Old Trafford
- The 22-year-old is in the final year of his four-year contract at United
Manchester United has offered Anthony Martial a new five-year contract at Old Trafford in a slap in the face for Jose Mourinho.
The Red Devils are keen to tie the down the Frenchman with the new long-term deal, despite Mourinho’s determination to get rid of the striker this summer.
The Portuguese manager was annoyed by Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley claiming in June he needed to move because he missed out on a place in France’s World Cup-winning squad.
However, United have tabled the contract extension to take Martial up until 2023 because they want to protect his value in the transfer market.
The 22-year-old is entering the final season of the four-year contract he signed when he joined United from Monaco for an initial £36million in 2015 under Louis Van Gaal.
The Old Trafford outfit have offered him the one-year option in his original contact on top of this season to take him to 2020, plus another three years.
Martial is happy to sign the new deal because he believes he will outlast Mourinho's tenure at United.
Mourinho’s position at Old Trafford is safe for now, but he is currently under increasing pressure to turn around United’s worst start to a Premier League season since 1992.
The 55-year-old wanted to offload Martial earlier in the summer and fined him two weeks wages when he returned late to the club’s tour of the United States after leaving to attend the birth of his son, Swan, in Paris.
Martial was substituted in the 60th minute during the 3-2 defeat to Brighton in his only appearance this season.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported Anthony Martial has reportedly given his agent the green light to get him a new club at the end of the ongoing Premier League season.
The Frenchman is said to be tired and frustrated with lack of active playing time this season at Old Trafford and wants to leave the Red Devils.
