The 25-year-old joined Serie A side Inter Milan on loan in January and played 17 times but has not been brought back to Italy.

The Catalan club have until the European window closes on Friday to complete their transfer business.

The La Liga champions have been linked with Manchester United skipper Paul Pogba, but are highly unlikely to agree a deal before then.

Future Barca president Gerard Pique has left fans in doubt about the club's interest as he paid tribute to the Frenchman.

He said: “I don’t know about his relationship with Mourinho.

"We’ll see in the future, but we would be very happy to see Pogba in Barca’s shirt.

"Pogba is a very good player, but a Manchester United player right now, and we’ll see if anything happens in the future.

"We would be happy to have him here, but Manchester United is his club and, if someone has to say something, it must be them."
