Ondo government declares Thursday work-free to enable workers register for PVC

- Ondo state government has extended voter registration till Friday, August 31

- The state commissioner for Information, Yemi Olowolabi, made the declaration in Akure

- Olowolabi said the gesture is to enable the people of the state to obtain their PVC

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state has declared Thursday, August 30, as work-free day to enable public servants participate in the continuous voter registration exercise in the state.

Akeredolu, according to a statement on Wednesday, August 29, by the state commissioner for Information, Yemi Olowolabi, in Akure, made the declaration following a resolution of the state executive council.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the CVR, which was to have been suspended two weeks ago ahead of the 2019 general elections, was extended to enable more people register.

The Independent National Electoral Commission announced that the exercise would now be suspended on Friday, August 31, until after the 2019 elections.

Akeredolu called on the people of the state to take full advantage to the opportunity to register and obtain their Permanent Voters Cards, to be able to vote in the forthcoming general elections.

He said the work-free day will be observed in the state to allow public servants participate in the CVR, ahead of suspension of the exercise. Workers in the state are expected back at work on Friday, August 31.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the Rotimi Akeredolu-led administration in Ondo state was accused by the state chapter of the MPN, of not making any significant impact since assuming office 16 months ago.

The accusation was leveled by the state chairman of the party, Biyi Poroye, during the first stakeholders meeting of the party on Friday, July 20 in Akure.

Poroye insisted that the Akeredolu government has not recorded any achievement since its inception.
