Pjanic admits Cristiano Ronaldo automatically becomes Juventus free-kick taker

Pjanic admits Cristiano Ronaldo automatically becomes Juventus free-kick taker

- Cristiano Ronaldo joined Juventus this summer from Real Madrid

- He has featured in both Serie A matches for the Old Lady since his summer move

- Meanwhile, the club's free-kick taker Pjanic has stepped down from the role to allow the Portuguese become the club's new kick taker

Juventus star Miralem Pjanic seems to have conceded his free kick taking role to summer signing Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 33-year-old joined the Old Lady in a four year deal from Real Madrid worth £100 million but is yet to score a goal in his first two matches for the club.

Before the arrival of the Portuguese star, Bosnian midfielder Pjanic has always been the club's set pieces taker along with forward Paulo Dybala and they recorded a lot of success from dead-ball situations.

However, the 28-year-old admits that Ronaldo has moved to the top of the list of kick takers for Massimiliano Allegri since arriving in Turin last month.

"Cristiano is here now, someone who in the past few years has shown he is best in the world," Pjanic told Juventus TV.

"At first when we trained on free kicks it would either be me or Dybala to take it. Now, it's 100 per cent him. He is a tremendous free-kick taker."

Ronaldo scored a stunning free kick at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, however, he has been criticized for his low conversion rate during his time at Real Madrid.

During his time at the Bernabeu, Ronaldo was prolific in front of goal but managed to score just 11 times from free kicks since 2012.

The Portuguese marksman had 170 attempts meaning his conversion rate was 6 per cent in the past six years.

Pjanic and Dybala have been more successful from the set pieces with Pjanic scoring 14 in 105 tries, while the Argentine has nine goals from 49 free kicks.

Ronaldo is also yet to find the back of the net for Juve too having played twice and taken 14 shots at goal but Pjanic is confident Ronaldo will get off the mark very soon.

"Cristiano's added something to Juve,' added Pjanic. 'I must admit that he's very good at shooting. He'll give us so much and we're very happy to have him with us.

"Having him with us is very important and we can only benefit from what he'll give us. I hope he feels comfortable with us."

Legit.ng previously reported that Manchester City and Chelsea target Miralem Pjanic signed a new long term contract with Italian League champions Juventus this summer.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international signed a five year deal that will see him represent the Turin based club until the summer of 2023.

This new deal ends all speculations linking the 28-year-old with a move away from the Allianz Stadium before this summer's transfer deadline day.
