Young genius restricted from going to the university for not meeting requirement

- A 15-year-old boy, David Okorogheye, has proven to be a genius going by his UTME score and WASSCE results

- David has nine A1s in his WASSCE and scored 332 in his UTME

- However, he cannot study his desired course because of his age

David Okorogheye, a 15 year old boy, cannot study the course of his dreams, medicine, at his school of choice, the University of Lagos (UNILAG), because of his age.

The young lad has proven to be more than qualified for the course going by his sterling results. He scored 332 in his Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and also got nine A1s in his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

However, the required age to study at UNILAG and some other government owned universities is 16, and David is one year shy of the required age.

David’s parents have come to terms with the fact that he is hindered to study at UNILAG because of his age, and he did not bother to register for the school’s post UTME.

According to reports gathered from The Sun, the director of studies of David’s secondary school is not very happy that he would not be able to participate in the 2018/2019 admission exercise, and he called on the government to award scholarship to David.

He said:

“Nigeria universities should not be seen as the stumbling block to youths progress. I don’t like students being delayed for years. We must tap their potentials at a young age.

“I want government, individuals, lawmakers and even corporate bodies to award scholarship to David. Children who are brilliant should be given scholarship.”
