Newspaper review: Aregbesola predicts brighter future for Osun state

According to Jega, an incompetent leader who is strong will end up destroying institutions.

The former INEC boss said this at the 58th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Abuja on Monday.

He said: “What we require most are the competence and capacity of leaders to take decisions and be assertive in ensuring that those decisions are actually implemented. So, we have to be very careful in thinking that a strong leader can really help."

Vanguard reports that senior lawyers and notable political actors, yesterday, took umbrage at President Muhammadu Buhari’s elevation of national interest above the rule of law, with several of them lamenting that the country was headed the path of dictatorship.

Buhari had in an address presented at the opening ceremony of the 2018 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, in Abuja on Sunday, insisted that individual rights of alleged offenders would not be spared when national security and public interest were threatened.

Leah’s audio message was published yesterday by “The Cable” online news platform with her recent picture in which she is wearing a brown hijab and sitting on a mat.

In the picture, Leah wears a look of defiance. In the message, she pleads for her release.

The audio is translated thus: “I am Leah Sharibu, the girl that was abducted in GGSS Dapchi. I am calling on the government and people of goodwill to intervene to get me out of my current situation.

The Guardian reports that Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, yesterday predicted a brighter future for the state.

He gave the assurance in his address to mark the 27th anniversary of the state’s creation from Oyo State in 1991.

He said he has laid foundation for prosperity and enduring development in his eight years in government. He added that he had also reawakened the Omoluabi consciousness in the people, which he described as an infrastructure of the mind that prepares them for greatness.

Aregbesola said his confidence was based on the solid infrastructural foundation that his administration has laid for the future of the state.
