Nigerian League side Enyimba reopens stadium for the first time after 2 years

Nigeria Professional Football League side Enyimba reopened their stadium for the first time after three years with a friendly encounter on Sunday, August 26.

The novelty match witnessed veterans of the football game between Ex-Enyimba players & 1998 Super Eagles squad.

Uche Okechukwu was the captain of the then Eagles, while other stars like Ike Shorunmu, Austin Eguavoen, Taribo West, Dan Amokachi, Samson Siasia, Tijani Babangida, Mutiu Adepoju, and Garba Lawal were also on parade for the game.

The match ended 1-0 in favour of ex-Enyimba stars in a match that saw the Abia state governor Okezie Ikpeazu take the ceremonial kick-off.

"Enyimba FC Stadium Aba was reopened yesterday with a Novelty Match b/w Ex-Enyimba players & 1998 Super Eagles squad.

"Captained by Uche Okechukwu, others were Ike Shorunmu, Austin Eguavoen, Taribo West, Dan Amokachi, Samson Siasia, Tijani Babangida, Mutiu Adepoju, Garba Lawal, etc."

The seven time Nigerian League champions are the only team from the country in CAF competitions as they welcome Congo Brazzaville side CARA.

Paul Aigbogun's men claimed maximum points in their Confederation's Cup group encounter against Djoliba of Mali as they currently rank second on Group C table.

A win will propel them into the quarterfinals stage of the championship.

Legit.ng previously reported that Super Eagles coch Gernot Rohr announced his 24-man list of players that will face Seychelles in a must win Afcon qualifier.

It will be the first time the Nigerian team will be playing a competitive match since losing out of the group stages at the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Two members of the World Cup squad captain Mikel Obi has excused himself from the encounter while Victor Moses recently retired from national team duties.
