2019: APC urges Nigerians to resist desperate politicians

- The APC has condemned any attempt to weaken INEC ahead of 2019 general elections

- Yekini Nabena, the party acting national publicity secretary, called on Nigerians to resist desperate politicians

- Nabena also urged citizens of the country to support President Buhari's second term bid

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked Nigerians to resist desperate politicians and their political parties bent on deploying illegal, undemocratic and sinister means, including violence to manipulate elections.

Nigerian Tribune reports that the APC made this known in a statement by its acting national publicity secretary, Yekini Nabena.

The statement read: “Our call comes against the backdrop of the recent seizure of a Nigerian-bound ship detained in South Africa for carrying arms and explosives. Nigerians will also recall recent arms seizures by the Nigeria customs service.

“This is a red-flag security agency must note and be alert to as political activities heighten in the leadup to coming elections.

“We invite the opposition to wake up to new realities where votes count and the people’s will prevail in all elections. We also call on all well-meaning Nigerians to support ongoing progressive efforts by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration to ensure that our elections are transparent, free, fair and credible.

“Finally, we call on the National Assembly to urgently do the needful by reconvening to consider and pass the 2019 election budget of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). We condemn any attempt to weaken INEC ahead of the 2019 election.”

“We alert our supporters, members and indeed the general public to a purported membership registration website of the All Progressives Congress (APC), apcregistration.com. The website which is trending on social media is unauthorised and a scam.

“Our internal investigation has revealed that the fake website is sponsored by one of the main opposition political parties in its desperate and criminal plot to harvest APC members ahead of the 2019 general elections.

“We have deliberately not named the political party and hereby call on relevant security agencies to urgently investigate the website and its sponsors.

“Meanwhile, we urge our teeming supporters and members to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Nationwide Membership Registration exercise in all 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“The exercise will include both fresh registrations and revalidation of existing membership for the purposes of issuance of the Party’s permanent membership cards”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported the APC accused INEC of leaking information on its congresses and primary elections submitted to the commission.

The party made the allegation in a statement issued by its national publicity secretary, Yekini Nabena, on Friday, August 24, in Abuja.

It said that there was need for INEC to look into its internal handling of official correspondence in order to put a stop to such leaks.
