Breaking: Cross River lawmaker dies 3 months after his colleagues slumped

The Cross River state House of Assembly is mourning the death of one of its lawmakers, Hon Simon Nkoro, who died after a protracted illness just three months after his colleague slumped and passed.

Premium Times reports that Nkoro represented Ikom constituency 2 until his death and was said to have died on Saturday, August 25.

Meanwhile, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Governor Ben Ayade has expressed shock and sadness over the demise of the lawmaker.

The governor, in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Christian Ita, said the death of the lawmaker was a “loss so painful to bear.

“Mr Nkoro’s demise leaves a sour taste in my mouth and ache in my heart. But then, we cannot question God, Him and only Him alone has prerogative over life.

“However, as a human, my heart is heavy, filled with sorrow. I agnoise and mourn this death.”

While decrying that the late lawmaker departed at a time his service to the state was most needed, Ayade described him as “a dedicated lawmaker.”

He said that the late lawamaker was a consumate politician, a team player and loyal partyman, whose death is a huge loss to the people and government of Cross River.

The governor offered his heartfelt condolences to Nkoro-Egbung’s family, colleagues and constituency.

He prayed God to grant them the strength to bear the irreplaceable loss, saying: “We are together with you in prayers in this moment of unspeakable sadness.”

His death was reportedly confirmed by Friday Okpechi, his colleague representing Obubra constituency 1, in the afternoon of Sunday, August 26.

The report said the late Nkoro was a two term lawmaker.

Legit.ng reports that in May, 2018, the state had lost Stephen Ukpukpen, who represented Obodu constituency.
