2019: Former deputy governor joins Ogun guber race

- Segun Adesegun, the Ogun state former deputy governor, has declared his interest to run in the state 2019 governorship election on the platform of the APC

- Adesegun explained that he has the political wherewithal and administrative experience to succeed the incumbent Governor Ibikunle Amosun

- He maintained that his administration would also attract massive investment to agriculture

Former deputy governor to Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Segun Adesegun, on Friday, August 24, officially declared his intention to run in the state 2019 governorship election on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Punch reports that Adesegun made this known at a press conference at Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre, Abeokuta, the state capital.

According to him, “My belief in the capacity and efficiency of Ogun state civil service as one of the best in Nigeria service delivery is unshakable and it must be encouraged.”

The former governor explained that he is if elected as the next governor of the state, his administration would also attract massive investment to agriculture by providing rural infrastructure and equipment to increase productivity in the sector.

Adesegun said: “I will encourage investment in infrastructure to promote manufacturing through agro-based industries and expand trade within and outside Nigeria. Our insurance policy will be looked into to protect and accommodate farmers and investors in Ogun state.”

“I therefore call on all indigenes of Ogun state, friends and well wishers, colleagues to register for the forthcoming election to support and assist me in making Ogun state of our dream a reality.”

Adesegun, who was deputy governor in the first term of incumbent governor, Ibikunle Amosun, parted ways with him following political differences.

The aspirant is from the Ogun east senatorial district, and has faulted a claim by Amosun that the governorship slot has been conceded to the Ogun west senatorial district.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the Ogun state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, said he would bring his successor to the Eid-el-Kabir praying ground at Oke Lantoro, Abeokuta in 2019.

Amosun made this known while addressing scores of Muslim faithful who thronged the venue to observe their Sallah prayers, in obvious reference to the fact that his administration is gradually winding down.

Those present included a former minister of steel and mines, Sarafa Tunji-Isola; the state commissioner of police, Ahmed Iliyasu; and a former military administrator for Bauchi and Sokoto states, Navy Captain Rasheed Raji, among others.
