PDP denies plans to impose late Audu's sons as Kogi party flag bearers

- The PDP has said there are efforts to drag the name of a former governor of Kogi state to the mud and discourage his political support to the party

- The party denied report that it plans to impose son of late Abubakar Audu as governor in Kogi state

- According to the PDP, the report was tactically planted by members of the ruling party who are already loosing grip of leadership in the state

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied alleged claims that a former governor of Kogi state plans to impose the sons of late Audu Abubakar as flag bearers for governor and House of Representatives.

The opposition party described as irrational the alleged plan to lure the sons of the late former governor to pick tickets even as a yet to be identified member of the PDP.

A statement issued by the national youth coordinator of the PDP, Austin Okai, said the alleged publication that had no genuine source and was tactically planted by members of the ruling party who are already loosing grip of leadership in the state to cause disaffection in the PDP.

Okai called for an end to the "well planned campaign of calumny and their cohorts against the former governor and their accomplices."

He said the efforts to drag the former governor's name to the mud and discourage his political support to the party is condemnable.

According to Okai, "former governor Ibrahim Idris at this point of his life had never contemplated imposing any unpopular candidate on the party that will in turn continue the current anti peoples leadership currently blowing its wind across the state."

He said the determination to salvage Kogi state from underdevelopment and political reascality is the priority of the Idris.

The PDP youth leader warned that those behind such calumny should desist from it while urging serious governorship candidates to focus on how to woo delegates and the people of Kogi to their side with strong manifesto and convincing campaign slogan.

He also assured that nobody will be stopped from pursing their political dreams in the state.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the former governor of Kogi state, Ibrahim Idris, accused Governor Yahaya Bello of failing the people of his state.

Idris lamented that the people of Kogi state live in abject poverty and accused the administration of Yahaya Bello of ignoring the plight of the people.

Idris, who served from 2008 to 2011, made the statement while fielding questions from newsmen during an award ceremony organised by the forum of past assembly members in the state.
