Chelsea star Tomas Kalas joins Bristol City on a season long loan deal this summer

- FA Cup champions have confirmed the departure of their defender Tomas Kalas on loan to Bristol City

- The 25-year-old will spend the rest of the 2018-19 league season at the Championship side

- He spent last term on loan at Fulham having made just two appearances for the Blues since joining them in 2010

Championship side Bristol City have signed Chelsea's longest serving player Tomas Kalas on a season long loan deal.

The Czech Republic defender secured a temporary deal with the lower league side this summer - following Matej Delac out of the club this summer.

He joined the Stamford Bridge outfit in the summer of 2010 from Czech topflight side Sigma Olomouc but was only able to appear twice for the west London club.

The 25-year-old will continue his development with yet another loan spell with Lee Johnson's side having spent the last seven seasons away from his parent club.

Kalas becomes Bristol's ninth signing of the summer, while this is his sixth different temporary club after spending the previous two campaigns with Fulham.

Before that the right and centre-back had a loan stint with Middlesbrough but struggled to retain a first-team spot.

Bristol City boss Johnson told the club's website: "Tomas’ signing shows the ambition that Bristol City have because there was a lot of interest and we beat a number of Championship and top European clubs to get him.

"The experience Tomas brings to this football club will be invaluable and I am really looking forward to working with him.

"He has already proven himself at Championship level and I have no doubts that he can help us in our bid to reach new heights."

Tomas Kalas' first half goal ensured the Super Eagles lost their second straight game in their build up as they go into the final phase of their build up.

The three time African Champions could have conceded more in the first 45 minutes of the game for saves from Francis Uzoho.
