South Africa govt slams Donald Trump over allegations of murder of white farmers

- The South African government, in reaction to US President Donald Trump's allegations that white farmers are constantly being killed, have said that he is misinformed

The South African government has accused US President Donald Trump of attempting to sow discord using his tweet referring to the "large-scale killing of farmers".

Trump in a tweet made on Thursday, August 23, said he had asked his secretary of state to look into the matter of "seizing land from white farmers". South Africa's presidential spokeswoman said Trump was "misinformed", BCC reports.

In July 2018, South Africa said it would go ahead with plans to amend the constitution, allowing lands to be taken over for public use without compensation.

The redistribution of lands was a basic policy of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) during its fight against white-minority rule.

However, according to government reports, even 24 years after the apartheid ended, white people, who make up just 9% of the population, possess about 72% of the farmlands.

Trump's tweet followed a piece on Fox News about South Africa's planned land reforms and he tagged a Fox News host, Tucker Carlson.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Trump had said he would be willing to shut down government if the Democrats do not give their votes for the country's border security.

Legit.ng gathers that President Trump made the threat on his Twitter page on Sunday, July 29, in which he said the United States must get rid of lottery and had a system of immigration that was merit-based.
