They will meet their match in us if they foment trouble - PDP senators warn their APC counterparts

- PDP senators have urged their APC colleagues not to cause trouble when the National Assembly reconvenes

- The senators promised that the ruling party would meet their match should they try to cause any kind of trouble within the Senate

- The PDP senators accused their colleagues of turning Bukola Saraki to the subject of every discussion

Senators of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have warned their colleagues in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) against causing troubles when the upper chamber finally reconvenes.

The lawmakers said their counterparts in the ruling party would meet their match should they try to cause any kind of trouble within the Senate.

In a letter co-signed by Isah Misau and Rafiu Ibrahim, both of the PDP, the senators said their APC colleagues are focused on making the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, the subject of every discussion.

They further urged the APC senators to devote more time to tackling the various issues confronting the country.

The Cable reports that the senators in their letter said this is the first time in the history of Nigeria that a ruling party has focused on blaming its failure on one individual.

They also accused the ruling party of hoodwinking Nigerians by their choice of words and actions since assuming power.

The letter read: “APC has devoted all the time and knowledge of their national chairman, national leader, publicity secretary, four senators and two presidential aides to the daily abuse of Saraki, such that it appears as if Saraki is the only politician in Nigeria today. They have made Saraki the issue in Nigerian politics today."

They said the PDP senators are surprised that all the decisions the Senate took as an institution is now blamed on Saraki. They called for attribution of successes recorded by the institution to Saraki as the Senate president too.

“If these individuals devote the energy they are exerting on Saraki to finding solutions to the security problem, economic crisis and collapse of infrastructure, among them, they will come out with some action plan, except they are only skillful in mischief making.

“We can see through this plot. The plan is to get Saraki so engrossed in the battle for survival in the senate and the pummeling from the APC cabal such that he will have no time to pursue his aspiration for 2019.

'However, this is a short time strategy. It will not work. That is why the man remains unfazed by the antics.

“Which of the decisions that are now being criticized did the APC pretenders in the senate oppose? Of the ten- man senate leadership, five of them are in APC. Those who enjoy privileges in the senate now look the other way when the presidency is complaining.

“We will however warn the APC that they will meet a match in those of us in PDP if they try to foment trouble in the senate whenever we resume.

They have made many attempts to subvert this Senate, including stealing of our mace, brutalizing of members of staff of the senate invasion of the senate complex with hooded and masked security agents, refusal to sign important bills, using security agents and anti-corruption agencies to intimidate members and the leadership as well as initiating malicious prosecution against members," the letter read.

Meanwhile, previously reported that the APC had revealed why the Senate president was yet to reconvene the upper legislative chamber despite pressure from all quarters.

The acting national publicity secretary of the APC, Yekini Nabena, said Saraki is aware that the ruling party has two-third of the majority needed to impeach him as a Senate President.

Nabena said the Senate president is just buying time with the hope that APC would negotiate with him.
