UEFA set to use VAR from Champions League quarter finals

- UEFA are considering the use of VAR in the Champions League

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) could be brought in for the latter stages of this season's Champions League.

The just concluded World Cup in Russia welcomed the introduction of video assistant referees and recorded general success.

And according to the Times, UEFA are working on a plan for the system to come into play from the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

There had been concerns over using VAR in this season's competition owing to the manpower required for eight group matches on the same night

However the European governing body believe by introducing it for the Champions League latter stages, they can ensure the system is monitored and controlled as efficiently as possible.

A decision is likely to be made by the end of the August at a meeting of UEFA's executive committee.

UEFA are also likely to consider using VAR at forthcoming Euro 2020 tournament, but will wait before making a decision.

The Champions League group stage draw will take place on Thursday, August 30, in Monaco.

Meanwhile, had earlier reported that English Premier League clubs have voted against using the video assistant referee (VAR) system for next season's campaign.

The club sides have agreed that they would wait till advanced testing on the use of the video technology until the end of 2018/19.
