Buhari vows to free Nigeria from ravages of corruption in Sallah message

- As Muslim faithfuls celebrate this year's Sallah, President Buhari has vowed to put an end to corruption in the country

- He called on Nigerians to rise above personal, group, sectarian and other interests

- According to him, selfishness, greed and corruption have no place in our lives and in our dealings

President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated with all Nigerians, particularly the Muslim faithful, as they celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir.

In his Sallah message posted on his official Twitter account (@MBuhari) on Tuesday, August 21, the president called on Nigerians to rise above personal interests and promote harmony in the nation.

He also vowed not to rest until the country is free from the ravages of corruption. He said his administration will not relent in its relent in its effort to build and secure a prosperous nation.

Buhari, in a message to Nigerians made available to journalists by his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, said surrendering to corruption was not an option because it destroyed society and progress of nations.

Even if some people hate you for fighting corruption, you should not chicken out from the task as a leader because doing so is a betrayal of public trust,” he said.

The president is currently in Daura, Katsina state for the Sallah celebration.

Legit.ng earlier reported that President Buhari will be celebrating this year’s Eid-el Kabir with fellow kinsmen in his home town, Daura, Katsina state.

The president on Monday, August 20, left the Presidential Villa, Abuja, for the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 3.06pm.

Some top government officials including his Chief of Staff Abba Kyari, the National Security Officer Babagana Monguno and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha, saw Buhari off as he left for his hometown.

Buhari left shortly after meeting with the nation’s security chiefs during which he directed them to step up their game in order to make the country safer.
