Woeful Manchester United suffer 3-2 defeat to Brighton in tough Premier League clash

English Premier League giants, Manchester United, suffered a shock 3-2 defeat to lowly-ranked Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, August 19 in a tough Premier League tie played at the Amex Stadium.

The Red Devils were looking to continue their impressive run into the new season when they traveled to the South Coast to face Chris Hughton's men.

United kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 convincing win over Leicester City at Old Trafford, with Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw handing Jose Mourinho a deserving victory.

Meanwhile, Brighton suffered a 2-0 loss to Watford, and were looking to make amends before their faithfuls at home.

Glenn Murray broke the deadlock in the 25th minute during the Sunday clash with a sensational finish, nutmegging Eric Bailly with a low cross to fire home beyond David De Gea.

Shane Duffy made it 2-0 two minutes later driving home into the corner leaving the United back line shell-shocked.

Romelu Lukaku pulled one back for United in the 34th minute, with the Belgian star nodding home beyond Mat Ryan from a brilliant corner.

However, the reprieve for United was short-lived as Brighton cemented their lead a minute to half-time after winning a penalty fired into the back of the net by Gross.

In the second half, Jose Mourinho's men attempted to get the match into their grip, but the efforts did not pay off as the home side held on.

Paul Pogba, who captained United in their Premier League opener against Leicester scored an insignificant stoppage time penalty after Duffy clattered Fellaini in the box.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Manchester United started their 2018/19 Premier League campaign on a winning note after beating former EPL champions Leicester City 2-1 at Old Trafford.

Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw gave the Red Devils the victory at Old Trafford while Jamie Vardy's late minute strike was a mere consolation.
