Guardiola eyes £60m Neves bid after City lost out of Jorginho chase

- Manchester City are plotting a massive winter bid for Wolves star Ruben Neves

- The Portugal midfielder has been outstanding since moving to Premier League club

- City boss Pep Guardiola has admitted he set to splash out again during January window

Wolverhampton Wanderers Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves is on the wish-list of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and is considering a potential £60 million bid in January.

According to a UK Sun report claim the 21-year-old Neves emerged a top target for Guardiola after the Spaniard lost the battle to sign Chelsea’s Jorginho in the summer.

And the former Barcelona manager has admitted he would look at splashing the cash again in the winter window – if the right man was available.

Interestingly, after a year stay at the newly promoted Premier league side Wolves, Neves has been dubbed the Portuguese Andrea Pirlo after his childhood hero-the Italian legend.

The Etihad outfit visit Molineux next week and had scouts watch Wolves in their first fixture last week when Neves scored one and made another in the 2-2 draw with Everton.

The report further hinted that Guardiola is searching for someone who can do the holding job and Neves – for all his attacking qualities – has impressed when played in the position.

The Portuguese is represented by Jorge Mendes who equally takes charge of City’s duo of Bernardo Silva and Ederson.

The Citizens boss is also aware of Neves’ recent comments when he revealed is a huge supporter of the ex-Bayern Munich manager and can’t wait to play at the Etihad most of all this season.

Neves is contracted with Wolves until 2023 and are they are not in hurry or under financial pressure to cash on the Portuguese – especially as his price tag will continue to increase further if he continues top quality performances in the English topflight.

However, the prospect of playing under Guardiola would no doubt appeal to the player, and he is certainly on top of City’s January potential targets.

Meanwhile, previously had reported that Manchester City will not be signing former Juventus star Claudio Marchisio as a replacement for injured Kevin De Bruyne.

According to a UK Sun report Citizens boss Pep Guardiola has ruled out a move for the free agent and insists he has confidence in his squad members to deputise for talented Belgian at least until the winter window opens in January.

De Bruyne was ruled out of action with an LCL injury this week for about 90 days and reports are suggesting the 32-year-old Marchisio, who left Juve in June, is on the way to the Premier League champions.
