- There are reports that Governor Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa state is getting set to defect to the PDP, despite his denials
- The secretary of the Adamawa state PDP, Abdullahi Prambe, has reportedly admitted that the party had been reaching out to the governor
- The governor’s aide, however, insists that Bindow remains a resolute member of the ruling party
Governor Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa state is reportedly getting set to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to Punch, the governor has entered into talks with the PDP, despite previous denials that he was not considering quitting the APC.
Legit.ng gathers that Bindow’s alleged waning popularity in the state is what has informed his decision to defect to the PDP; as as nearly all the political heavyweights in the state are said to have ditched him.
Another serious challenge facing the governor is the fact that former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has also defected to the PDP.
A source reportedly stated: “The odds are against him because of the clout and influence that Atiku wields in Adamawa to galvanise the opposition to reclaim the state from the ruling APC.”
The secretary of the Adamawa state PDP, Abdullahi Prambe, when contacted, reportedly admitted that the party had been reaching out to the governor.
He said: “We have been talking with the governor, and from the way things are going, something positive will happen soon.”
However, the governor has dispelled any insinuation that he plans to defect; describing the reports as a desperate plan by the PDP to discredit him in the lead-up to 2019.
According to the governor’s special assistant on media and publicity, Macaulay Hunohashi, Bindow has never considered dumping the APC, and remains a resolute member of the ruling party.
He said: "Governor Bindow has no plans to defect to any party. He continues to reaffirm his support to President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid.”
Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that the governors of Niger and Adamawa states, Abubakar Bello and Mohammed Bindow, dismissed speculations that they were getting set to defect from the APC to the PDP.
They made the disclosures in separate chat sessions with newsmen in their respective states.
Bindow stated: "I cannot leave the APC. The people of Adamawa are happy with the APC government hence I have no reason to leave the party. Adamawa will remain an APC state. For me, there’s no opposition. The people will vote Governor Bindow because this is the best governor the state has ever had.”
