Spanish League champions Barcelona got their La Liga title defence off to a winning start following their 3-0 victory over visiting Alaves at the Camp Nou.
Two superb goals from Lionel Messi and one from Brazil attacker Philippe Coutinho ensured the Blaugrana entertained their home fans to the victory.
Having endured a barren first 45 minutes, the Argentine superstar opened his goal account for the new campaign in the 64th minute.
The Brazil forward doubled his side's lead with less than seven minutes to the wrap of the game after which Messi completed his double on the stroke of 90 minutes.
Meanwhile, new boy Arthur Melo and Luis Suarex provided assists for the second and third goals respectively, as Messi is said to have scored Barca's 6000th goal from their 2,801 games since 1929.
Their opening day victory over Alaves means they are topping the table temporarily until their arch rivals Real Madrid and other teams play their games.
Barcelona will travel to Real Valladolid for their next counter while Alaves host Real Betis.
