The report noted that the reason for his absence is yet to be known whether it is injury-concern or performance-based.

Sanchez played all 90 minutes against in the opening fixture against Leicester but failed to shine after a promising pre-season.

The Chilean was in training all week and there has been no inclination to his omission.

However, as it stands the duo of Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial will be expected to handed a starter’s nod by Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho.

There were reports that the former Monaco forward would leave and, though the English Premier League transfer window has closed, European teams can still bring in new addition until the last day of the month.

Serie A champions Juventus have also been linked with the Frenchman alongside the two San Siro clubs.

The Chilean’s absence, however, will surely come as a surprise to Manchester United faithful.
