Political tension has gripped members of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers as well as residents of Port Harcourt, the capital of the state, as a factional office of the party is scheduled for opening on Friday, August 17.
This comes barely a week after unknown persons attacked a parallel secretariat of the Rivers state the APC loyal to Senator Magnus Ngei Abe who represents Rivers south east senatorial district.
The faction has announced its official opening to the public saying it would hold on Friday, August 17, at 9am.
Legit.ng's regional reporter in Port Harcourt, Tony Ihunwo, reports that in a letter of invitation endorsed by the factional chairman, Chief Peter Odike, the party said that the opening would be the greatest political event with impact in the history of the state.
Odike was the deputy chairman to Davis Ikanya, the immediate past chairman of the party before the disputed state congress that threw up, Chief Ojukaiye Flag Amachree as its new head.
Amachree's emergence as chairman was reportedly endorsed by the leader of the party in the state, Chibuike Amaechi, a former governor and current transportation minister.
The invitation to the official opening stated: "Let me use this medium to officially invite you to attend the historic opening of the Rivers APC secretariat in the Garden City of Port Harcourt.
“It’s going to be one of the greatest and most impactful political events in the political history of Rivers state. It will be a movement of Rivers people."
It further stated that the venue is at 173 Aba Road, Catholic Mission Estate, Port Harcourt.
It is not clear if two APC secretariats would be allowed to operate in the state with factional chairmen.
Ojukaiye had vowed that no factional APC secretariat would be allowed to open in the state.

Senator Abe also vowed recently in Bori, in Ogoniland that:"those who attacked our secretariat are not aware of how determined and prepared we are for this journey to government House of Rivers state."
Legit.ng earlier reported that the director general of Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and a former governorship candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC), Dakuku Peterside, said that in-spite of the seeming crisis rocking the party in the state, members have resolved that Governor Nyesom Wike would be kicked out in 2019.
